June 28: Departure Day, Newark to New Delhi

Group Meeting:

At 7:00 PM, meet your leader and fellow students at the United Airlines check-in counter (outside of security) at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This is the official start of your Putney program!

Group Flight:

The group will fly on United Airlines flight #82 departing Newark (EWR) at 9:50 PM, arriving in New Delhi, India (DEL), at 9:30 PM local time on June 29 (14 hours, 15 minutes en route).

June 29 & 30: New Delhi

Spend a day exploring New Delhi, including the city’s UNESCO World Heritage sites, the maze of tiny streets in Old Delhi, and the Red Fort. Visit the Jama Masjid mosque, Humayun’s Tomb, or the soaring Qutab Minar tower. Shop for traditional Indian clothing for your stay in the community service village. Have your program orientation and prepare for your journey to Kotri.

July 1: Overnight Train

Travel by overnight train with berths from New Delhi to Rajasthan.

July 210: Kotri Village, Rajasthan

Settle in for three weeks at our base in our community service village, working on repairs to school classrooms or community buildings, planting trees, teaching English, tutoring local children, or running after-school activities for local kids. In the afternoons, shadow local weavers, learn from tailors how traditional Indian clothing is made, or work with an expert potter or woodworker.

July 11: Udaipur

Travel by private bus to Udaipur and spend one night in a heritage hotel. Explore the city’s palace, bazaar, and beautiful lakes.

July 12–20: Kotri Village

Return to Kotri by private bus and continue work on community service projects. Say goodbye to local friends and have a farewell celebration before setting off on a journey through the Rajasthani countryside.

July 21 & 22: Jaisalmer

Travel by private bus from Kotri to Jaisalmer, stopping in Jodhpur to visit Mehrangarh Fort. Continue on to Jaisalmer to visit palaces, markets, and explore the Thar Desert on camelback.

July 23: Overnight Train

Travel by overnight train with berths from Jaisalmer to New Delhi.

July 24: New Delhi

Visit more of New Delhi’s UNESCO World Heritage sites and monuments, explore the city’s many markets with your group, and enjoy a celebratory meal.

July 25: Agra

Leave new New Delhi in the morning, traveling by private bus to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal and the nearby Mehtab Bagh Gardens. Spend one night in Agra, then journey back to New Delhi for your group’s return flight, stopping enroute to visit the fortified ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri.

July 27: Return Day, New Delhi to Newark

Group Flight:

The group will fly on United Airlines flight #82 departing New Delhi, India (DEL) at 11:35 PM local time on July 26 and returning to the International Arrivals Area of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) at 5:00 AM on July 27 (15 hours en route).
